Egyptian alabaster alabastron

Romano-Egyptian, 1st century AD

Height: 36.5 cm

 

Provenance: Embiricos family collection, acquired prior to 1970, and thence by descent

 

Of slender columnar form flaring out slightly towards the flattened base. The separately carved disc rim fits into the tubular neck above narrow shoulders, its upper surface polished and slightly concave at the edges. Two undrilled lug handles at the sides.
