Cycladic, Early Cycladic II, circa 2600-2500 BC

An elegant fragment, the long neck to straight shoulders, the body, with shallow conical breasts, tapering towards the waist. Arms, rendered in shallow relief, crossed right below left. On the back grooves indicating the arms and spine.
Literature: The complete idols illustrated on p. 252 of Jurgen Thimme, 'Kunst und Kultur der Kykladeninseln im 3. Jahrtausend v. Chr.' (Karlsruhe, 1977) show some similarities to this atypical torso though without the clearly extended elbows and lacking the elegant elongation seen here.
