Titled 'Exterior of tomb below Girgeh' and dated '31 Jan 1862' bottom left.

 

Study executed in pencil and wash from the sketchbook, 'Sketches in the East', of 'J.D.T', an as yet unidentified English watercolour artist. The exterior of an unknown tomb below the city of Girga. Located on the west bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt, the city may have been the site of Thinis, the capital of unified Egypt during the 1st and 2nd Dynasties.
